Mansaram, a villager, Rawach, Udaipur Dist. “We’ve been protecting these forests for over 30 years and one day the local administration told us we had no rights over these forests. This upset us. The jungle has been protected by us and we don’t have rights over it who else can protect it? We protested! After several visits to the government offices, we were allowed on the rights. We have now made a committee with a membership fee of ₹5. Now we have built trenches and bunds to conserve water. We have a good forest.”
