“It takes 85 days for us to harvest carrot. From 40 days to the next 45 days we apply pesticides to make sure we get a good harvest. We spray pesticides like Galileo, Ergon, Esopron. Esopron is applied so that the head of the carrot looks full. People buy seeing the head of the carrot, better-looking leaves get us a better price, so it has to be nice. I have five acres and I do chemical farming on all five acres. I’d like to do organic farming but no one tells me clearly what to do and people don’t like it.” Rajan, a farmer, Kookulthorai, Nilgiris.
